Here we come with the list of 10 most vulnerable Os of 2016. The list where neither of the product vendors would like to rank. The rank is based on the data from the central repository of vulnerability, vulnerabilities which have received a CVE identifier.
Here is list of the most vulnerable Os of 2016;
#10 Windows Server 2012
10th rank in the list is secured by Microsoft’s Windows Server 2012. The server Os was identified with 156 vulnerability in the year 2016. Windows Server 2012 ranked 7th in 2015’s list of most vulnerable Os with an almost same count of reported vulnerabilities. In 2015, a total number of 155 vulnerabilities were reported for the server Os.
#09 Iphone Os
9th rank in the list of most vulnerable Os of the year 2016 is obtained by Apple’s Iphone Os with 161 vulnerabilities. In the year 2015, Apple’s Iphone Os ranked second on the list with 387 vulnerabilities.
#08 Windows 10
Launched on July 29, 2015, Microsoft’s Windows 10 ranked 8th in the list of most vulnerable Os of 2016. A total number of 172 vulnerabilities were reported in windows 10 in the year of 2016.
#07 Mac Os X
The 7th place in the list went to Apple’s Mac Os X for its 215 vulnerabilities that got identified in 2016. Mac Os X, in the year of 2015 was ‘topper’ of the most vulnerable Os list with its 444 identified vulnerabilities.
#06 Linux kernel
The year 2016 was also not a good year for Linux kernel if vulnerabilities are considered. A total number of 217 vulnerabilities were identified in Linux Kernel in the year of 2016. whereas, in 2015, only 86 vulnerabilities were identified in Linux kernel which got them 34th rank in the list.
Novell’s Os, OpenSUSE found its place in the list of the most vulnerable Os. OpenSUSE ranked 5th in the list with total 228 identified vulnerabilities. OpenSUSE came one rank stronger in the ‘not so desired’ list as compared to 2015 when it got the 4th position with 243 vulnerabilities.
#04 Leap Os
Best known as Website Operating System, Novell’s Leap Os ranked fourth in the list of the most vulnerable Os of the year 2016. The Leap Os was identified with 259 vulnerabilities in 2016.
#03 Ubuntu Os
Canonical’s Linux-based Ubuntu Os ranked third in the list of most vulnerable Os of 2016. A total number of 278 vulnerabilities were identified in User’s favorite Ubuntu Os. Ubuntu Os maintained it’s the third position as it were in the year 2015.
#02 Debian Linux
Second place in the list of most vulnerable OS of the year 2016 went to Debian Linux. The hacker’s favorite Debian Linux was identified with a total number of 319 vulnerabilities in the year 2016 which was more than it’s last year count. Last year Debian ranked 5th in the list.
#01 Android OS
With a total number of 523 identified vulnerabilities in 2016, Google’s Android OS top the rank of Operating system with the most number of Vulnerabilities. Last year, this “not so desired rank” was held by Apple’s Mac Os X with 444 vulnerabilities.
The list of most vulnerable Os of the year 2016, is mostly occupied by vendors like Apple, Novell, and Microsoft each having pair of entries. If we decode the list of 2015, that was mostly occupied by Microsoft making 4 entries in top 10 and 7 in top 15 of the list of most vulnerable Os of the year 2015. Different versions of Windows 8 happened to be the major contributor to the previous list.
